  1. Awesome Jan, very funny. I am all pumped up, ready to sneak out of work and to the nearest pub.
Today we’ll either start rising to glory or crash and burn.
    HUP HOLLAND

  2. two ways it can happen today.

    1. Sneijder takes the game by himself (like with Brazil in 2nd half)

    2. Steks does some miraculous save (like the one against Kaka).

These two either/or/both can give us the result we need.

Seriously, things are tough. Comes down to the “biggest” players to pull this off.

  3. Guys,
yes this is war. This is D-Day for us. We have to go into the game as if it’s an elimination game and the opponents are the Germans.

We believed that this team has a date with destiny. We believed that destiny was winning the championship. To get there we have to play elimination games. This could easily be seen as a quarter or semi-final game.

Win or go home. Simple as that.

  4. Guys:

I am with you! Let´s rock and roll. Got a good feeling and whoever starts I just asked them to do the job.

It would be like a final for us…there is no tomorrow!!!

    Hup Holland!

  5. Thanks Balkan & Simon got it sorted. Can’t wait this is war lets give those German a real show of Dutch power.

    Hup Holland Hup!!

  6. It would be best if Portugal beat Denmark tomorrow. That way Denmark will not have 4 or 6 pts. That means they most likely qualified. If we beat the Germans and Denmark loses, all 4 teams will be on 3 pts each and it’ll come down to the final Group B games.

Lot’s of scenarios. We still have our destiny in our hands. I wish BVM inserts Boulah on the right side. He’ll stabilize the defense more and will allow our defensive midfielders to push up more. I don’t know if he’s fast enough to keep up with Podolski on the German left. If he can do it, I’ll most certainly go with him over VDW.

    1. Funny, the other day during Portugal game, my buddy (half German, die hard German fan) kept telling me Podolski is crap. Why would you fear him?

    1. Not so sure. The goal.com story is dated seven hours before the Telegraaf report that Huntelaar won’t start.

      Goal.com: 13 Jun 2012 08:30:00
      Telegraaf: wo 13 jun 2012, 15:31

  7. Hopefully, they change their mind about benching Hunter in the next few hours. I hope it’s to confuse the Germans until the last minute.

Maybe like BVM is willing to gamble everything by sticking to his principle.

  8. Hey guys,
What’s the result we would like to see in the Denmark – Portugal game? In other words, what would be good for Oranje?

    A) Denmark win
    B) Portugal win
    C) Draw
    D) It doesn’t matter

  9. My final prediction for today’s game:
    Holland 2, Germany 1

If this doesn’t happen, I will stop watching soccer for the next 2 years !!!

      1. haha me too! after heitinga got the red card i walked around the block checking my phone…got the bad news and didnt check on this site for 6 months.

  10. and at the same time, we dont win this match to end with a result like 3-2 or so because if all teams tie with points at the end, then goal differnce then who scored more counts after that!
anyway it is too early now to do all these calculations, because with this messed up denmark dfense, we weren’t able to score so i am wondering how we are going to do it today against a better team!

  11. Very nervous for today…terrified that the germans will make us look stupid, but hoping we can upset them and then beat portugal to make this tourney interesting!

People who dont want Kuyt to start dont get it. His defensive positioning is miles above affellay, sneijder and as per the last game, Vlaar…He also comes up with some big goals…see Euro 2008. Yes he cannot beat a defender for shit, but his crosses are MILES better than Robben’s, who singlehandedly killed our attacks, along w RVP of course who looked like he was playing football on a slip and slide..

  12. We have had Kuyt play on the left in so many games and what usually happens is that, the left side becomes more static. This is a game where we have to push hard from the 1st second. I would bring him in after we have scored at least a goal. That way he can help us hold on to our lead.

If Robben is not motivated or effective for this game, I don’t know what else would work for him. My concern is that he’ll try to do too much to score and end up wasting chances or shooting into the stands instead of crossing or creating chances for RVP (or Hunter if he’s in the game).

  13. 2-1 is perfect, leaving portugal with a +1 diff, if we can win with s similar result or clean sheet at the least, we’ll be very fine here, feelin pretty good ladies and gents, can’t wait another hour!

  14. BVM is amazing, a mazing. Not a single change expect Kuyt. He is either an idiot or a genius. I hope for the latter.

First 20 mins will be critical.

  15. My prediction for this game, Germany 3-1 Netherlands.

I think our defense lacks the experience that Gio brought to the WC team and before, Steks is WAY WAY overrated, and Heitinga is our only decent defender. Matijsen is too old and slow, VDW is not bright with his positioning and offers nothing offensively and Willems is a wildcard.

The best thing about this loss that is coming will be that our team will be fundamentally stronger once we bring in the younger defenders, De VRij, etc. Once these young lads develop into solid defensive players, we can get rid of this shit 4-2-3-1 formation and switch to 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 4-1-4-1, whatever…I for one am very much looking forward to the new look Oranje after this tourney.

  16. For example, France is now a much stronger team now that the old guard is gone following a string of embarrassing results. Getting rid of Anelka and Malouda, Henry, etc, allows for more youth and energy, as opposed to players who have nothing to prove.

What we lack is that young exciting player whose energy and motivation to prove himself pushes the team. At the WC is was Elia, and at Euro 2008 it was the whole team actually, happy to have RVN back in the fold.

This time we lack that spark.

    1. ah happy bday, not to steal you thunder but it will be a nice present for all of us, hope you made your wish just dont tell us what you predict hahah

    1. i agree. i love VDV in his prime, amazing skills, great passing and vision, great shooting. But he is past his prime now, gets tired by the 55th minute and as has been noted before, is a defensive liability with his poor tackling, slow reactions and poor positioning.

Not sure emanuelson is the answer, i think strootman should get a go of it to be honest, he is MVB – 15 years and much faster more energy…why is he parked on the bench?

  17. overmars

Let’s focus on this game for now. VDV also has other advantages that Emanuelson doesn’t. We need VDV if anything happens to Sneijder.

  18. why dont we start Narsingh in place of Robben. He provided over 20 assists in the league, most to Dost, as opposed to Robben who blasts the ball 20 rows up every time he has the chance

    1. Only one change:
Netherlands (4-2-3-1): Stekelenburg; Van der Wiel, Heitinga, Mathijsen, Willems; De Jong, Van Bommel; Robben, Sneijder, Afellay; Van Persie

IN ORANJE WE TRUS! GOD HELP US!

    1. why? What did he bring to the last game? Did we score a goal with him starting? Did he put in one cross? did he test the goal keeper once, other than one lame effort? did he provide one killer pass?

The real playmaker was Sneijder, he was very good against Denmark, but he cannot do it alone, he needs players who know what to do with his brilliant passes.

  19. Hunterlaar stays on the bench and the formation is the same. I well and truly hope I am wrong, but I think we are going to be knocked out to night because BVM has stuck to his guns and will play the same way which I bet the Germans have meticulously prepared for.

  20. Definitely do not watch espn pre game, Lalas and his stupid predictions are annoying as shit. He should go hangout with Carrot top and leave football to the real men

  21. Absolutely. And the match in Kharkiv on Sunday will be war. The Dutch hate the Portuguese and the feeling is mutual. The likes of Bruno Alves, Pepe, van Bommel, Nigel de Jong will make sure there is war. Whether it will be worse than that of 2006 in Nuremberg remains to be seen.
