As football fans through and through, we have long been anticipating the 2026 World Cup. Not just the matches of Oranje, but everything that comes with it. The draw, the selections, the host cities, the stadiums, and of course, the endless discussions about the lineup.

WKvoetbal.nl arose from this interest. A place where everything related to the World Cup comes together. We follow the news closely, gather practical information for supporters, and try to answer as many questions as possible that live among football fans.

Our Outlook for the 2026 World Cup

As always, we are entering a World Cup with a lot of confidence. However, that confidence has taken a hit due to the last two practice matches. With a defeat against Algeria (0-1) and a narrow victory over Uzbekistan (2-1), you certainly can’t call it a flawless preparation.

Nevertheless, we don’t expect the Netherlands to run into trouble early in the tournament. With 48 participating countries and 32 tickets for the knockout phase, the chance of surviving the group stage is greater than ever. It would therefore be a huge surprise if Oranje did not qualify for the next round.

After that, the real work begins. A strong opponent probably awaits directly in the Round of 16, with Brazil and Morocco as the most likely candidates. In our eyes, Brazil is truly a class above, but we thought that in the 2010 World Cup too… Against Morocco, there are certainly chances, although that country has also shown to possess a lot of quality in recent years. It certainly won’t be easy.

If we look realistically, we think that a place in the quarter-finals is the maximum achievable for Oranje. They will then probably face a match against France, England, or Germany. Of course, we hope that the Netherlands surprises, but honestly, we don’t see that happening quickly.

Wherever we are in the world, many Oranje supporters feel connected to each other during a World Cup. From supporters in the Netherlands to fans in Canada, the United States, Australia, and other parts of the world. As soon as the first whistle blows, we all hope for the same thing: a successful World Cup for Oranje.
