Branco van den Boomen is Ajax’s first signing for next season

AFC Ajax have announced the signing of Branco van den Boomen for next season. The 27-year-old midfielder signs with the Godenzonen until the end of the 2026/27 season.

Branco van den Boomen had been sought after by other clubs in the Netherlands. PSV was close to reaching an agreement with the athlete who stood out in recent seasons with the shirt of Toulouse FC, but the Ajax board managed to be quicker and finalized his signing more quickly.

Aged 27, born in Veldhoven, a city located in the province of North Brabant, he began his career in the Ajax youth system. He arrived in 2011 and left the club in 2014. After leaving Ajax, with no room to move up to the professional team, he signed with FC Eindhoven and was immediately loaned to SC Heerenveen. The following season, he was loaned out again, this time to Willem II. In addition to these clubs, Branco van den Boomen played for De Graafschap in the Netherlands. In 2020, Toulouse FC paid around €350,000 to De Graafschap to hire the midfielder.

In just two clubs, Branco van den Boomen managed to play more than a hundred games. At De Graafschap he appeared in 119 games and scored 21 goals, while in France, with Toulouse FC, he played 121 games and scored 23 goals. Branco van den Boomen never managed to play for the first team of Ajax.

“We are delighted with the arrival of Branco van den Boomen. He is the first addition of many players that we will bring in to reinforce our team in order to reach our goals next season. We believe that with Branco van den Boomen, we will be able to start a transformation in our club’s squad” said Sven Mislintat, director of football at Ajax.

Branco van den Boomen had his contract terminated with Toulouse FC at the end of that season and as there was no agreement for renewal, the athlete was available to sign for any club free of charge. Ajax understood this opportunity and brought the midfielder to Amsterdam.
