After twelve years, Arnold Bruggink is back at FC Twente as director of football

FC Twente have announced the appointment of Arnold Bruggink as the team’s new director of football. He will arrive to replace Jan Streuer at the end of the season.

“I feel this is the right time to take on this challenge in my life. I always had that desire. I’ve prepared myself for the last few years for this moment. I never intended to be a coach, but this more political part of the club has always caught my attention. I always look at how clubs are working, what’s going on and how things are being handled. I’ve always wondered how I would act in certain situations and now it’s time to put all that into practice” said Arnold Bruggink.

As a footballer, Arnold Bruggink spent many seasons with De Grolsch Veste playing for FC Twente.

“I know FC Twente very well. I know the history of the club, I know where it comes from. I’ve seen and experienced all this from the inside” commented Arnold Bruggink.

Jan Streuer will continue to work as director of football at FC Twente until the end of this season. He believes that Arnold Bruggink is an excellent choice.

“He is a club boy, he comes from the region, he played for our club for several seasons. As a player, he did very well and even made it into the Dutch national team, but it remains to be seen whether he will also be a good director of football. It’s risky, but there is confidence that he will be able to take the club to the next step” said Jan Streuer.

FC Twente will have a complicated end of the season ahead of them, after all, five players will have their contracts expire at the end of this season. Some players will have to be sold to pay off some of the club’s debts.
