Boycott the Qatar World Cup!

I’m terribly sorry guys… As you know, I’m a huge football fan and I would love to see our NT compete at the World Cup, and maybe win it some time, I have to say… what is going on in Qatar is disgraceful…

I watched this documentary on it and decided quite quickly afterwards, that as far as I am concerned, this whole “Slavery” World Cup can be banned, boycotted and ignored.

We see all these wonderful initiatives across the globe to end injustice. Whether race wars, gender inequality, the gap between rich and poor, it’s all basically injustice that we are battling here.

In The Netherlands, the banning of Black Pete (“Zwarte Piet” as part of the Sinterklaas celebrations) was the key topic, in other countries we saw demonstrations or riots even… One particular bad joke in Veronica Inside, made by Johan Derksen – the Godfather of football journalism in The Netherlands, was the cause for the Dutch internationals to actually boycott that particular tv program.

Which is fine. Football players can decide to ban someone, why not? I have no problem with this. What I do find difficult though, is that these same players will go and play in Qatar, knowing that human rights are non existent there, and 1000s of people died in horrific circumstances, building football temples for the privileged.

So, as a football fanatic but also humanitarian, I had to create a petition to get the KNVB / National Team to boycott this World Cup.

We haven’t even qualified for it, yet. But no matter. And I also want to push the English, Germans, Belgiums, Danes etc to do the same. It’s simply something we can not and should not condone much longer.

FIFA makes billions on the broken backs of illegal Nepalese, Indian and Pakistani workers… it’s disgusting.

Sorry guys. I will stand by my words and also boycott the World Cup with my blog. Sad but true.

I hope you will be kind to me and sign your name….

  1. any form of slavery is inhumane and violation of human rights and shouldn’t be tolerated in any circumstances.being said this, shouldn’t the government bodies of respective countries whose people are being subject to the above, look into into their plea.looks like its a give and take to me.

Moving on and looking towards the euros, the dutch players including the clubs will have a lot of catching up to do given the disruption which prematurely halted the completion while other leagues have commenced and with players active.

looking at the big guns I must say Germany will become a powerhouse and will dominate like what spain did few years back. they looked out of depth during the Nations, league with injuries as well but the trajectory of their players like Kai Hartvez, Timo Werner,Julian Brandt,Nadiem Amiri has ascended within a very short period.add to this their regular big names, Gnbary,Sane, kroos, Gundogon, Klimmch, Leon Goretzka, Draxler and Ter Stegen, they will be top contenders come the euros next year and off course with no major injuries. Again their back line was one departmentthat looked to be out depth during the NL but looking at the return of Antonio Rüdiger at Chleasa from injury, would definitely saw up the lose ends in the backline.

this is where I think the dutch players like Malen, stengs, Boadu, groeneveld need to catch up with their trajectory.they need to be involved more as to increase the depth and make up for a very dynamic bench.also would like to see El Ghazi get another shot even though he is playing for bottom feeder team . his crossing is phenomenal and if given space like bergwijn, he can be very detrimental plus it hard to gauge his max ceiling when playing in a team like Aston Villa, but still he has proved himself in epl in his first season which demands a call up. Berghuis over El Ghazi, is hard to swallow or does El Ghazi needs to come back to eredivise and score 20 goals to get a call up. the idea of Berghuis as an impact player is also like hitting your head on a stone.

  2. The french could be in the mix as well, somewhere in the top 4. marcus Thuram and Dayot Upamecano could be the new faces in the team after coming ofa big season in bundasliga and including Leverkusan sensation moussa Diaby who has been a dream signing for Bosz.he could replace both Griezmann and Dembele.theo Hernandez is another player who has exploded at Milan after stalling at Madrid. The only downfall for this french team could come if Deschamps drags with probga in the midfield and doesnt recognize upcoming talented midfielders like houssem Aouar and few others. Other big names like Coman,Mbappe, kante,Varane, fekir should make up the team as usually. They could be a level above to the team that featured and won the WC final imo.

    1. Portgual, I would only add Joao Felix to the team that won the Nations League.

So with no majors injuries I have france,Germany,Dutch and Portgual in the last 4.

  3. Jan,

Thank you for this. A disgrace.

I couldn’t clink on the link, so I went directly to the site to sign the petition, but when I got there and went to the page, it said “petition closed.” ????

  4. Hi Jan

Sure we will support and agree that the whole thing is a disgrace in Qatar . It’s a big shame for Fifa to allow to keep a blind eye

Having said so , I can’t see KNVB would boycot the Tournament as such it’s hard for me to NOT to support or not watch oranje while they are playing . I think this goes the same to every oranje fans right ?

With all respect Jan, this is your board . I believe you mean it and won’t write a single word during the tournament if it still goes on . Does that mean you will stop this page during that time or not wanting us to talk anything about it ?

  5. Qatar started to build the infrastructure for the WC-2022 four years ago. Migrants’ flow to Qatar has been non-stop since that. Everybody who goes there to earn money know very well where they go and what to expect. Everything is relative. People always go there where it is better. If migrants were not paid, the word of mouth would have warned their country fellows and nobody would have come to Qatar to work. In opposite, the migrant flow from Central Asia, Russia, Nepal, etc to Qatar has been non-stop. Russian stadiums for the WC-2018 were also built by migrants from Central Asia who lived there in no better conditions than migrants in Qatar but in much better conditions than in their native countries. Cheap labor is being used everywhere in the World, including the countries who always talk about human rights…
With respect to this video, it is one of the hundreds videos that American and British media uses as anti-Qatar (anti-Muslim) propaganda. First bribe scandal, now human rights, what is going to be next I do not know….I remember prior to EC-2020 was postponed, there was a similar anti-Azerbaijani propaganda about human right violation to boycott one of the group stage competition to be held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

Bottom line, I would suggest not to politicize this beautiful blog whose purpose is to unite Dutch fans across the globe. Politics always separate people…

  6. I saw the match, (well, until it was not a game anymore). Liverpool looked like they were still hungover.

I also saw the news about Braaf. Had a strong U17 WC, glad to see that he kept it going a the club. Someone to keep an eye.

          1. “High intensity” game from whose perspective? Are you saying this game would have been 4-0 if the teams were neck and neck for the title? Liverpool wasn’t ready to play. Klopp’s comments are just coachspeak. As you say, we’ve been over this all before; You’re not a fan of Wijnaldum.

          2. I guess I have to agree with you on this one. Reports of extensive party has surfaced up and with the mentality of the players questioned with respect to the game, the title being wrapped up plus the lock down,no fans and so forth, however my proposition for wijnaldum is the fact that outside of liverpool he is not a player who can step up to another level in dictating play like what other midfielders have shown both at club and international level. A very good example being Bruno fernendes who just in his first season in epl is already pulling the strings at united and the same for portgual(Nations league). You would agree if in a game when the momentum is swinging or shifting, you need to pounce on the opportunity and bury the chances that comes you way and this is where I find wijnaldum as an attacking midfielder lacking that cutting edge .In context to NT this has was evident in NL final vs Portgual and that germany qualifers where the game end in 2-2 draw.
The dutch only pounced back after sane and Gnabry were subbed. (The intensity dropped which favoured the dutch)

I simply cant see wijnaldum in a world cup winning team or EC for that matter because when it comes to the final every aspect of the team including player head to head is at stake and this becomes a crucial/decsive factor contributing to the outcome of the game.its nothing personal.

  7. It’s a dirty world we all are living in. I don’t think we can find a perfect place even in the so called western democratic world it’s full of derkness. Child porn , animal cruelty, human trafficking , forced sex labour .. the list goes on

As a normal human being , I will definitely stand up and voice out when encountering the evil justice . But sometimes our power is limited and truth is there is not much to do

Remember Beijing Olympics 2008? The whole western world was agains and threatened to boycott Beijing. Eventually China had one of a very success Olympics with a record or countries participating.

Sometimes I try to get away from all these negative news and turn to the football world , oranje word trying to get some relief and a piece of joy .

I hope Jan would consider changing his mind and keep writing about oranje and all it’s related updates . I hope sports and politics can be separated becos the fact is we can never live in a perfect world .

I feel Sorry for for those mistreated workers in the Middle East but that has nothing to do or stopping me a second to support Oranje

  8. Arnaut Groeneveld danjuma- came of the bench at HT vs United.had some good interventions, had a goal disallowed(offside) but he showed in open play he can be be deadly in terms of finishing. It will be very disappointing if bournemouth gets relegated and with it the door closing for danjuma in NT.Im hoping if it does koeman will make an exception for him.

Nathan Ake- As usually, in the thick of everything but couldnt do much on either 5 goals. Their midfield opened up way to easily, not to say fernandes and probga are forming a deadly combo.good to finally see uniteds trajectory gaining momentum under OGS. He has really worked hard in turning round the team with the hierarchy now fully supporting him. They will be a good team next season.

Bobby Adekanye- also came on at HT for lazio vs milan but was ineffective. Not to say it was his fault but stationed upfront in 3-5-2 he was largely running up and down looking for spaces and trying to get serviced.the service from the flanks was also very poor in he box and neither him or correa provided any arieal threat. Lazio has been a very consistent team but clearly looked the second best without their tailsman Immobile.

  9. Jan, the petition link didn’t work for me, either as click-through or typed directly into the browser. while on change.org I signed a similar petition put up by an English guy but I couldn’t find yours

    1. thats the thing. it was cocu who signed him from NEC and I read somewhere Cocu also wants to bring him at Derby County. Not sure if this will be a good move unless somehow they get promoted back to epl.

I checked on the Turkish League and Fenerbache is destined to miss out on CL and EL next season so it depends whats the best offer that is on his table. eredivisie would be a step backs unless its a top 4. I also read somewhere AZ alkmaar is tracking him and if idrissi leaves, I would say he should think about moving there.

Andrew, any player in particular, you think he resembles?

  10. Bobby adekanye came in the last few minutes for lazio, did make an impact but unfortunately his efforts was not enough to salavage a draw. Had a header blocked by both the keeper and the cross bar and gave a beauty of assist which was headed inches wide by milinkovic- savic. I really can see this g
Rreaching the level of sadio mane and crowm jewel of lazio if inzaghi uses him in a normal wing system

I really hoping to see koeman start calling up the likes of Adekanye,Dilrosun,El Ghazi,Groeneveld now since they are getting minutes which will further stir up competition to others. Babel, promes and bergwijn. Can you imagine all this guys boiling in one pot. Koeman might end up have second heart attack. Jokes but the hunger brings the best out you

This will also create a very good depth in the team and different options as well. Like with Weghorst you need a winger like E Ghazi who has a very good accuracy in crossing.

Koeman has one year with both Nations league and world cup qualifers squeezed in between before the reschduled euros. Alot of games to test new players.

  12. @Wilson,

I don’t really like saying this player plays like that one; especially based on a highlight reel But going back a ways, he has a little bit of the free flowing movement of Ossie Ardiles. Who are you thinking of?

    1. Fair enough lets watch his development in another season or so.

Maybe to early to say but from the videos analysis he looks like a complete player.I mean he is fluent on both left and right compared to those players who are onesoded or have their stronghold only on their prefered side. A good example is Hazard,Isco,Insigne and even depay(wing) who become plain when playing out of that right flank. Their strong hold primarily lies cutting inside from the left flank where they are absolutely detrimental. Im not comparing him to these household names but in a general statement.

I had Insigne given his hieght, physic and movement but as mentioned earlier more complete given his ability to switch flanks.

    1. Wilson. Sorry I think you are little bit overrating Danjuma

I have been watching every of his game since joining Bournemouth and sad to say I think he won’t be in koemans radar in the short time

So far he has yet to score a singe goal for his club . No one at the premier league knows him .

It’s so sad since when our our strikers / wingers can play for oranje even their scoring record is zero ? Even kluivert has a better cv than danjuma

Bergwijn already 3 goals , two of them against Man Utd and city . Yet it is still not good enough to capture spurs fans .

Yes Danjuma’s attitude is perfect , hardworking and has some injuries before bla bla

Wilson let’s wait until He finally scores ONE goal in the premier league , then you can start talking about him . But I doubt that will ever happen and soon he will play for the English championship .

With his terrible CV I even doubt any premier league will sign him.

As for al ghazi , I don’t know why you keep mentioning him. Do you really think with all the available options koeman will give him a call ?

  14. Also Wilson , zivcovich is another one you should stop taking about

Wait until he scores ONE goals first . You keep taking like in your own imagination bro

Jeez this is sad but I miss the time when every week I can watch our oranje strikers scoring for fun for their respective teams

  15. @ Yan

This is a very very stupid argument you are marking.

Which dutch winger is a goal machine at the moment?

How many goals that Memphis score when he was struggling at United but still he was being selected by Danny Blind. Why?

How many Goals Did Promes score when he was struggling at Sevilla but still he was getting nod.why?

How many goals did Berghuis score at Watford? Came back to ererdivisie, started getting selected.why?

Do you want all the the players I have mentioned above to return to eredvise and bully average teams, raking up fun goals to get selected in NT.

it will become way too easy for them but the fact here is its all about taking that next step in their career and this has been the highlight for many player and we have talked about this alot.some move out of eredivisie because they are not recognised playing outside of top 3 (van dijk) while others simply have to move because they simply have no chance of making the first team. This happens alot in Ajax,PSV and Feyenoord and when these players depart they end up starting from the scratch again.

Instead of scoring goals I look at the potential ceiling of players and their induvidual capabilities. Unfortunately this is not how things are perceived by dutch football/selectors.they dont reconize playing in mid tables clubs playing outside of eredivisie

El Ghazi in his first season playing for newly promoted club has 6 goals and 7 assists what else you want. What else you want considering this is his first season in epl. Do you have anyone else who can straight go from eredivisie and start banging 20 -30 goals?

Richairo Zivkovic at 23 has already scored a total of 77 goals in all competition before joining Sheffield United. What else you want.this is telling you something.

For Danjuma how can you forgot he has proven himself at NT level in just 2 caps.were you sleeping? Or just woken up.

You also have to look at other aspects here as well such the overall quality of team/ players around whom they are playing, the coaches and tatical formation they are playing in because these certainly will change if they get to play in upgraded teams or with better quality players. A very good example here is Angel De Maria now at PSG.actually he is a perfect example in this argument. Look at what happened to him under van gaal at United.

    Lastly you said this,

Jeez this is sad but I miss the time when every week I can watch our oranje strikers scoring for fun for their respective teams”

This tells me you are dreaming. With the reitrement of robben, that era has ended.

    Secondly this

“Bergwijn already 3 goals , two of them against Man Utd and city . Yet it is still not good enough to capture spurs fans”.

This is big joke for me. I said this before and im saying again bergwijn will never reach lo celso or Son Heung-min’s level.at best he might be a good impact to change the tempo of the game or assist.

3 goals to capture spurs fans.lol

      1. Nope. Justify. I have already said it above. Coming back to eredivisie and scoring fun goals.

He will never be able to replicate his current form in any competitive league and more evidently never being in NT.

  16. I do get your comments, my friends. Politics and sports.

But I don’t see this as political. It’s not Trump vs Hillary we’re talking about, but simply humanitarian stuff. People dying and being used as slaves. I do get the wise words by AZ Forever, but I also feel that as long as we – the fans who pay for all this – say “this is sports, we are not responsible for what happens in the dark corners of this football world” we are being negligent and as guilty as the FIFA bosses…..

  17. Memphis has already proven himself during the World Cup . At Man Utd he was never given much chance . That’s very different comparing to Danjuma today

Sorry Wilson I know you are in the debating club but you can’t argue on this this time . If you cannot score one goal in 10+ games sorry that you are just not good enough for Oranje .

This is why I’m saying let’s wait and see once he starts to sore a goal or two . I hope u prove me wrong bro , cos if I didn’t like him I wouldn’t watch him every single game for Bournemouth

As for Steven bergwijn , I brought this up not because I like him . It’s because Danjuma is not even up to bergwijn’s level so you shouldn’t keep dreaming if Danjuma.

Yep 3 goals in 4 games is not a lot. But Danjuma can’t even score one goal in 10 games. So pls stop dreaming Wilson .

For zivcovich I’m not writing him off . Let’s see how he plays for shed Utd in the remaining games and next season
