Dutch clubs are doing very well in the transfer market in recent windows, according to The Football Investment Report. After AFC Ajax, PSV Eindhoven also entered the top 10 of clubs with the most profitable sales.
The data is from the last five years and all values are based on information from the Transfermarkt.com website.
PSV Eindhoven shoots up the rankings due to the sale of Cody Gakpo to Liverpool and Noni Madueke to Chelsea, resulting in a total profit of €189m. And that earned the Eindhoven team eighth place in the ranking. Ajax are second with over €308m, thanks in part to the sale of Antony and Lisandro Martínez to Manchester United.
The Amsterdammers had everything to stay at the top of this ranking, but the sale of Enzo Fernández from Benfica to Chelsea gave the Portuguese team the lead.
In addition to Benfica and AFC Ajax, LOSC Lille, Red Bull Salzburg, Sporting, Olympique Lyonnais and AS Monaco also overcame PSV. FC Porto and the Danish club FC Nordsjælland complete the top 10. FC Nordsjælland (former club of Mohammed Kudus) made a profit of 125 million euros from the sale of players.
The Dutch youth teams also score well, but do not exceed the values of the big Portuguese clubs. Ajax is also in second place when we analyze the sales of players who were trained in the club’s own youth categories. Since 2013/14, the defending Eredivisie champions have sold a total of €376m in players who were brought up in their own youth divisions, such as Matthijs de Ligt, Donny van de Beek and Frenkie de Jong.
Benfica managed to take the lead in this ranking. The Portuguese from Benfica sold a total of 543 million euros in athletes trained in the club’s youth categories. The top 10 is completed by Real Madrid, Sporting, AS Monaco, Red Bull Salzburg, FC Porto, Manchester City, FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid.
